Is this your first time using self storage? Are you wondering how to get started and what to do first? We can help! Follow these simple steps to make renting a storage unit easy, affordable and hassle free.
Find the Best Location
Location is very important when it comes to self storage. You want to find a storage facility that is close to your home or work and is easy to get into and out of. When you need to access your storage unit you don’t want to drive forever to get there. So you should find one that is around 15 minutes away.
To find the right location for you, start by doing an internet search to see which ones are close enough to your home and work for you to consider. Then you can call and visit several stores that you have found through your search. You will want to meet (or at least talk to) the property manager, make sure he or she is on site at least five days a week, and ask questions to see if he or she is knowledgeable and can help you when you need it. If you are not sure what questions to ask, you can check out our FAQs for some ideas.
It is also a good idea to tour the property. If you visit in person, ask to see the different options of storage units that are available. Be sure to take notice of the security on the property; are there cameras and is it fully fenced in? And, is the property clean and well maintained? All great things to find out.
Keep a small notepad with you or take notes on your phone at each store you visit so you can refer back to them before making a final decision.
Select the Right Size Storage Unit
At 140 Mini Storage, our storage units come in a variety of sizes. We have everything from 5’x5′ through 10’x30′.
If you have no idea how much space you are going to need, you don’t have to guess! Give our helpful, friendly property manager a call. She can help take inventory of your items and make a recommendation to fit your needs. No two tenants are alike. With our many years of experience, we can come up with a creative solution that is right for you.
Rent a Storage Unit
Now that you have selected your location and size of storage unit, you are ready to get started by reserving or renting one. Whether you need the storage unit for a future date or right now, you can stop by the rental office and meet with the property manager, or you can rent a storage unit completely online! We offer both options so you can choose the one that suits you best.
Renting a self storage unit is very similar to renting an apartment. However, you have no long-term contracts with us. Our rental agreements are month to month, so you can keep your storage unit for one month or two years. Rent is due on the first of every month, and we simply ask that you give us 7-10 day written notice before vacating your storage unit.
